Care Philosophy: Natalie T. Cheng, MD, is Attending Neurologist at Montefiore and Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on the acute management of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, with specific interests in cryptogenic stroke and stroke in the young.In 2005, Dr. Cheng graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and molecular and cell biology with neurobiology emphasis. She went on to attend the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2010. She began her postdoctoral training at Weill Cornell Medical Center, completing an internship in 2011 and a residency in neurology in 2014, acting as chief resident in her final year. She then pursued a year-long clinical fellowship at UC San Francisco Medical Center followed by a year-long fellowship with the National Institute of Health StrokeNet, completing the fellowships in 2015 and 2016, respectively.Dr. Cheng&rsquos research interests include cost-utility in stroke care, healthcare disparities, and the global burden of stroke. She has shared her findings through many peer-reviewed journals, abstracts and invited presentations.Dr. Cheng is board certified and a member of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and the American Academy of Neurology.

Biography: Praveen B. Raju, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and previously the Caryl & Israel A. Englander Clinical Scholar in Children''s Health at Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is board certified in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology.Dr. Raju completed his MD in 2001 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he also completed his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology / Genetics. He served as a resident in Pediatrics at Babies & Children''s Hospital of New York / Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and subsequently finished his Pediatric Neurology Fellowship training at Children''s Hospital, Boston / Harvard Medical School in 2006 where he served as Chief Fellow during his final year. Prior to joining the Weill Cornell Medical College faculty, Dr. Raju was a Fellow of the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP)  at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Raju directs the Laboratory for Childhood Brain Tumor Research at Weill Cornell Medical College and studies the developmental origins of pediatric brain tumors with a particular focus on medulloblastoma and its relationship to developmental signal transduction pathways. Through the utilization of sophisticated mouse genetics techniques, Dr. Raju and his team are creating new and improved preclinical mouse models of these childhood brain tumors to better understand their biology, investigate novel treatment approaches, as well as identify treatment resistance mechanisms that can be translated back for use in patients in order to improve their outcomes. Dr. Raju''s research program has received support from the NIH/NINDS, NIH/NICHD, Department of Defense (DOD), STARR Cancer Consortium, St. Baldrick''s Foundation for Childhood Cancer, Hartwell Foundation for Pediatric Research, American Brain Tumor Association, Unravel Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Hyundai Hope on Wheels Foundation, and Alex''s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.

Biography: Prior to joining Weill Cornell and NewYork-Presbyterian, Dr. Pascual was the inaugural holder of The Once Upon a Time Foundation Professorship in Pediatric Neurologic Diseases and the holder of the Ed and Sue Rose Distinguished Professorship in Neurology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he remains an adjunct professor of Neurology. He is also adjunct professor of Bioengineering at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas.Dr. Pascual received his MD degree with distinction from the Universidad de Granada, Spain, one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1349. He received his PhD degree in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, under Arthur M. Brown, MD, PhD, McCollum Professor and Chair. His postdoctoral research was conducted in the laboratory of Arthur Karlin, PhD, Higgins Professor and Director of the Center for Molecular Recognition, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and, later, at the Colleen Giblin Research Laboratories for Pediatric Neurology at the same institution under a Neurological Sciences Academic Development Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). He also received residency training in Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine - St. Louis Children’s Hospital and in Neurology and Pediatric Neurology at the Neurological Institute of New York - Columbia University Medical Center.His laboratory research, mostly funded by NINDS, spans virtually the entire field of neuroscience, including medical neuroscience, from molecular structure and function (including drug action) to neural physiology and metabolism at the cellular, circuit and whole-brain level and neurogenetics, all of which is complemented with human studies and clinical trials. Research greatly influences his clinical activities and patient observations guide his research. His laboratory is home to scientists from very diverse backgrounds and levels of training who have joined efforts to endow both neurology and developmental medicine with a strong scientific basis. Dr. Pascual has co-authored several dozen scientific and medical textbooks. He is the editor, together with Dr. Roger Rosenberg, of the leading text Rosenberg''s Molecular and Genetic Basis of Neurological and Psychiatric Disease (from the 2015 5th edition to the present one, which  comprises over 2,000 pages). He is also the author of the textbook Progressive Brain Disorders in Childhood (Cambridge University Press). Biography: Dr. Alison Maresh is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.  She is board certified in Otolaryngology and has completed advanced fellowship training in Pediatric Otolaryngology.Dr. Maresh graduated with Honors and Distinction from Stanford University where she was recognized with the prestigious Firestone Award for excellence in research.  She completed her medical school training at Yale University School of Medicine and went on to her specialty training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia and Cornell.  After finishing her residency she went on to complete further fellowship training in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC where she was trained in advanced techniques in managing complex pediatric pathologies in Otolaryngology.  She is now on the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College where she practices Pediatric Otolaryngology.Dr. Maresh is trained in the management of common ear, nose, and throat disorders.  Her clinical interests include the advanced endoscopic management of airway disorders as well as open surgical reconstruction of the airway, evaluation and treatment of complex pediatric ear and hearing pathology, congenital disorders of the head and neck such as thyroglossal duct cysts, branchial anomalies, and choanal atresia, and complex aerodigestive disorders including swallowing problems and drooling. Throughout her education and training Dr. Maresh has been recognized with numerous awards for her dedication to teaching and research.  She is active at national meetings and continues to be committed to scientifically advancing the medical field of Otolaryngology and training new physicians in her specialty.If you are scheduled to see Dr. Maresh as a new patient, please print and complete the Patient Packet (under age 12) (over age 12) and bring it with you on the day of your appointment. Biography: Rivka Sachdev, MD graduated from Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. She completed her internal medicine internship at SUNY Downstate and her neurology residency training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She then completed a fellowship in Movement Disorders at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. She remained at Mount Sinai Beth Israel as an attending in Movement Disorders and General Neurology for 9 years, during which time she developed expertise in botulinum toxin chemodenervation therapy for various neurological disorders. Conditions she treats using botulinum toxin include cervical and limb dystonia, blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia, hemifacial spasm and facial synkinesis, tremor disorders, hypersecretory disorders (including sialorrhea and hyperhidrosis), motor tic disorders, spasticity, and chronic migraine. She joined the neurology faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine in July of 2019 and sees patients at the Lower Manhattan Campus.   

Care Philosophy: For the past three decades I have been in fight against lung disease. My colleagues and I in the Lower Manhattan Hospital have been witness to the devastasting effects that lung diseases have caused in this community. Cigarette smoking, allergies, air pollution, resistant chest infections and the toxic residue of the World Trade Center collapse are just some of the factors that have motivated me to carry on the battle against lung disease. I feel privileged to have been a part of the lives of the many patients who have sought my counsel and care. I am especially delighted that the New York Presbyterian Hospital has made the commitment to bring their considerable resources and talents to lower Manhattan. It is truly exciting to be part of a formidable team of health care professionals.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Kaunzner has an interest in autoimmune disorders of the nervous system and specializes in evaluation and management of patients with Multiple Sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders. She is also actively involved in conducting translational research at the imaging center of the Judith Jaffe MS Center of Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Kaunzner is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Biography: Dr. Mulhern received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University. She then went on to study animal behavior and ecology at the University of California at Berkeley where she completed a Masters degree. She returned to the east coast to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she received her MD degree. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, in 1998, and has been working as a general internist in Manhattan since completion of her training.

Biography: Dr. Kara Greenwald received her undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester and her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She was a member of the Rochester Early Medical Scholars Program. After medical school, she moved from Rochester, NY to New York City and completed her internal medicine residency training in 2011 at the New York University School of Medicine (NYUSOM). Before joining Weill Cornell Medicine Primary Care in 2017, Dr. Greenwald worked at Bellevue Hospital Center as a primary care physician, hospitalist, and assistant professor of general internal medicine at NYUSOM. Dr. Greenwald is also passionate about the topics of patient safety and quality improvement in medicine.  

Care Philosophy: My approach to patient care is to listen to the patient intently and to commit my full attention to the patient's concerns. Very often the diagnosis becomes clear just from patient input and information. My main areas of interests include hepatitis and biliary problems. Inflammatory bowl disease is growing concern in Brooklyn, and HIV afflictions in our community and its impact on the bowel is a challenge to our speciality.
