Biography: Dr. Kim is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in the Division of Gynecologic Surgical Services. Dr. Kim graduated from Yale University and earned her medical degree from New York University. Following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University, she completed an AAGL-accredited fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Chronic Pelvic Pain at the University of Michigan, also earning her Masters in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis. The fellowship provided Dr. Kim with specialized training and expertise in the field of advanced laparoscopy and robotics. Dr. Kim favors a minimally invasive approach to the care of her patients, understanding that this approach leads to faster recovery, less pain, shorter length of hospital stay, improved cosmesis, and greater patient satisfaction. In addition to providing routine gynecologic care, Dr. Kim specializes in gynecologic endoscopy, including robotic surgery, advanced laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and in the treatment of women with chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding and vulvar pain. Dr. Kim regularly presents at national and international conferences, and led the establishment of a laparoscopic training program in Ghana.

Biography: Dr. Advincula is a leader in minimally invasive surgical techniques and one of the world’s most experienced gynecologic robotic surgeons. He has published and taught extensively in the area of minimally invasive surgery as well as developed surgical instruments in use worldwide. Dr. Advincula has extensive experience in treating complex and challenging cases of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and pelvic masses. He is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. After graduating with honors from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Advincula completed both an OB/GYN residency and a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Afterward, he spent 10 years at the University of Michigan where he rose to the rank of Professor and Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Division and Fellowship as well as Endometriosis Center prior to joining Florida Hospital Celebration Health in late 2009 as Director of the Center for Specialized Gynecology. While in Florida, Dr. Advincula served as the Director of the Celebration Health Endometriosis Center and the AAGL/SRS Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery. He was also Medical Director of Gynecologic Robotics at Florida Hospital as well as Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Advincula was promoted to Education Institute Director for the Nicholson Center, an advanced medical and surgical simulation training facility. Since 2014, Dr. Advincula has held the position of Levine Family Professor, Vice-Chair of Women’s Health & Chief of Gynecology at the Sloane Hospital for Women, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, bringing more than 15 years of clinical expertise, innovation, and leadership. In addition to his departmental responsibilities, Dr. Advincula is the Medical Director of the Simulation Center for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Biography: Dr. Ja Hyun Shin is the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and has expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures. She is passionate about helping women who suffer from endometriosis, fibroids, adenomyosis, and other pelvic pain and bleeding disorders. She is dedicated to providing women with the least invasive but most effective treatment options, which include both surgical and non-surgical approaches. Dr. Shin completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center followed by a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She completed additional training in robotic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, after which she joined the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. During her time at Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. Shin served as the Director of Pelvic Pain and Multidisciplinary Resident Robotic Training and was the Associate Director of the Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Fellowship Program. Within these roles, Dr. Shin focused on the education and training of residents, fellows, and faculty in performing safe minimally invasive surgeries. Biography: Jessica Opoku-Anane, MD, MS is a board-certified gynecologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is a specialist in the treatment of uterine fibroids, menstrual disorders, endometriosis and pelvic pain, ovarian pathology, intrauterine scarring (Asherman''s), alternatives to hysterectomy, and advanced gynecologic surgery. Her thoughtful approach to patients and individualized treatment plans allow her to provide exceptional care that addresses the needs of all patients. In particular, she strives to provide a minimally invasive approach to her patients’ surgical needs whenever possible. This includes laparoscopy and robotic surgery through small keyhole incisions and hysteroscopy. She also offers many office-based procedures including hysteroscopy. Dr. Opoku-Anane obtained her medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Harvard Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. She received several awards, including the prestigious AAGL award for excellence in endoscopic surgery. She subsequently completed an AAGL fellowship in advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) at George Washington University and trained at the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta. In addition to her clinical activities, she has been active in research and spent two years with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) both locally and in sub-Saharan Africa. Her current research includes a randomized control trial to test the ability of antifibrinolytics to decrease blood loss during myomectomy, a prospective study to determine how best to teach trainees to do robotic surgery using surgical simulation, and a study on environmental exposures that enhance fibroid growth and disease burden. Dr. Opoku-Anane also has a longstanding interest in global health and spent extended periods of time throughout Africa on clinical and research programs. She has recently published a systematic review article on increasing laparoscopic surgery in developing countries and assists with the development of laparoscopic programs throughout sub-Saharan Arica. She is also a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the American Association of Laparoscopic Gynecologists and the World Endometriosis Society.
